Water quality in DYNAJET high-pressure cleaners

Expert knowledge high-pressure expertise

Water supplied for high-pressure cleaning should generally be drinking-water quality, contain as little air as possible and be cool. Never use water from open waters, from the sea or fully desalinated water, including process water, to supply the machine. Also make sure that the water has few suspended particles. If the water is hard in your area, you should ensure that your pressure washer is decalcified regularly.

Protection of the machine using the following measures

  1. Use large diameter inlet hoses.
  2. Keep the inlet hose as short as possible.
  3. The fewer valves, ball valves and T-pieces in the supply line, the better.
  4. Ensure an upstream pressure of no less than 2 and no more than 6 bar.
  5. Shut off the supply when not in use.
  6. Descale your machine regularly.

Determination of suspended particles in water

Use a simple test to check the amount of suspended particles in your pressure washer’s water: Take a water sample in a glass, let it stand for a few hours, then check whether suspended particles have settled at the bottom of the glass. Floating parts are particularly responsible for increased wear when you use higher pressure, as they rub against the surfaces. The effect is similar to sandpaper.

Determining the water hardness

We speak of soft water when there is less than 1.5 millimoles of calcium carbonate per litre of water. This corresponds to less than 8.4°dH (German hardness). Hard water is when there is more than 2.5 millimoles of calcium carbonate per litre (more than 14°dH). Your local water supplier will be able to tell you the degree of hardness of your water. Alternatively, you can analyse the water yourself or have it done by a laboratory.

DYNAJET prescribes a hardness level of 3-25°dH for high-pressure cleaners up to 350 bar. For cleaners from 500-1200 bar, 3-20°dH are permitted and above 1,200 bar the maximum value is 15°dH. These values are in the operating instructions of each DYNAJET machine in the “Water quality requirements” chapter.
